Why Concerned Women PAC Endorses:

Andy Harris ran his first ever political campaign in 1998.  That was the year he knocked off a “moderate” Republican who was the State Senate Minority Leader.  The incumbent at the time had actively led the fight to kill the partial birth abortion ban in Maryland and Mr. Harris couldn’t let that stand.  That started his career in the Maryland Senate.   He is the chairman of the pro-life caucus in the Maryland Senate.  But that isn’t all Senator Harris has done to distinguish himself as the conservative to elect:

•Andy led the filibuster against embryonic stem cell research in Maryland.

•Led the fight against the University of Maryland showing a hard-core porn film, Pirates II, in a university-sponsored forum.

•Senator Harris voted against tax-payer funding of abortions and against funding for Planned Parenthood

•Sponsored a conscience clause bill for pharmacists that would allow these pharmacy workers to practice their faith even at work.

•Sponsored a traditional marriage constitutional amendment.

•Harris led the fight and successfully stopped the state from mandating 12 year olds receiving the HPV vaccine.

         •Sponsored a school voucher bill.

Harris is strongly endorsed by CWPAC. Past endorsements also include:  Eagle Forum, National Right to Life Committee,   National Federation of Independent Businesses, and the personal endorsement of Dr. Jim Dobson, founder of Focus on the Family.

 2010 Race Outlook:

Liberal incumbent Congressman Frank Kratovil should not get too comfy in congress.

Dr. Andy Harris lost by only one percent (49-48) in 2008, and former Congressman Gilchrest ‘s endorsement won’t be a surprise.  Maryland 01 is on everyone’s target list and Kravotil is considered vulnerable. GOP Presidential candidate, John McCain won the district in 2008 by a whopping 18 percent (58-40).  Coupled with Rep. Kravtovil’s vote in favor of so-called Hate Crimes, and it is no wonder this seat is considered a toss up for 2010.
